Coal City University (CCU), an independent private university, accepts submissions from secondary school students in Nigeria for its 2022 essay contest.
The annual essay contest aims to increase awareness about current global issues among young people. This contest encourages young minds to think creatively and take the initiative to promote sustainable development.
CCU Scholarships also aims to educate society through young people’s eyes and recognize that we all have a responsibility to address these issues. We will be discussing how to apply for scholarships from CCU.

Theme Of Essay
Topic: Climate Change
Climate change significantly impacts people’s health and well-being, including their mental and psychological well-being, as well as their mood and psychological comfort. Climate change is threatening the vital ingredients of health, such as clean air, safe drinking water, safe food supply, and shelter. It could also threaten decades of progress in global healthcare (WHO).

CCU Scholarships: Benefits
These awards will be presented to students who have been shortlisted:
- 1st prize: Certificate, a cash prize of 500,000 Naira, or a full tuition fee scholarship at Coal City University for any program of your choice
- 2nd prize: Certificate. Prize of 250,000 Nigerian naira
- 3rd prize: Certificate, 150,000 naira
- All Shortlisted students: Certificates and Consolation prizes
- Additional Awards (Best school award, School Incentive Award) may be awarded if applicable.
Qualifications for the CCU Essay Competition
CCU Essay competition judges prize original insight and clear and correct writing. This CCU financial aid eassy should not be written for a specific audience but should be well-informed and based on the students’ observations.
- Anyone can submit an essay to a Senior Secondary School (SS1 – SS3).
- The essay should not exceed 700 words. It must be typed with the title and author at the top. The word limit does not include your name and the title of your essay.
- Formatting (font size, style, line space, etc.) is not governed by rules. ).
- Plagiarized submissions will be rejected.
- No co-authored essays will be accepted.
- The organizer will have a copyright to all essays submitted.
Selection Criteria
- All winners shortlisted will be invited to Coal City University in Enugu to receive an award ceremony
- All winners shortlisted will be announced via the website CCU.edu.ng on July 22, 2022. They’ll also receive an SMS.
- We cannot answer individual questions regarding contest results.

Other CCU Scholarships
1. The Chancellor’s Merit Scholarship (CMS) Awards): This Award is for qualified candidates with a JAMB Score of 250 and above or international students who achieved AAA in A-Levels and were successful in the CCU Scholarship Interview/Examination. Existing awardees can renew the scholarship yearly until graduation, provided they maintain a minimum CGPA.
2. The Progressive Excellence Scholarship (PES) Awards: This Award is for students with a JAMB score of 200-249 or international students who achieved AAB in A-Levels and were successful in the CCU Scholarship Interview/Examination. A student could be eligible for a partial scholarship in their first year or a full scholarship with a CGPA greater than 3.5 for future years.
3. The Study Abroad Scholarship (SAS) Awards: Studying abroad fosters global mindsets and improves employability. This award is for undergraduate students at Coal City University with a CGPA of 4 points or higher who wish to participate in academic activities (3-6 months) at partner universities worldwide. However, they may not be able to afford it. This award can be used to pay for international accommodation and flights, but it is not intended to cover all expenses. Students can receive up to $2500
