About Beautycounter

Gregg Renfrew founded Beautycounter in 2013. Renfrew worked previously with Susie Hilfiger and Martha Stewart as merchandising executives. Beautycounter launched nine products in March 2013, including shampoo, creams, and eye creams. The company was established as a direct retailer brand. It sells through its website, independent consultants, and retailers like Sephora, Target, and J.Crew.

Beautycounter received the Allure magazine Best of Beauty Award for its lip sheer in twig (2014) and dew skin tinted moisturizing moisturizer (2015). Beautycounter was a founding member of the non-profit Environmental Working Group’s verification program. This Beautycounter affiliate program aims to make finding products free from toxic chemicals easier.

Beautycounter’s first mascara line was launched in 2016. Beautycounter’s Lengthening Mascara became one of Allure magazine’s Best of Beauty products under the natural category. Beautycounter purchased the Nude Skincare, Inc. worldwide assets and Nude Brands, LTD., Ali Hewson’s natural beauty line, from LVMH in June 2016. Hewson was elected to the board, and Bono, Hewson’s spouse, became an investor in Counter Brands, LLC., Beautycounter’s parent company.
