Every year World Wildlife Fund supports conservationists who are committed to the cause from targeted countries to receive financial aid to fund their Masters or doctoral degrees as well as field research on conservation through the Russell E Train Fellowships. These Russel E Train Fellowships fall under the Russell E Train Education for Nature Program (EFN). EFN offers 4 grant opportunities regularly. One of them is one of them being the Russell E Train Fellowships. The applicants can apply to any of the universities around the globe. Russell E. Train Fellowships assist those pursuing a master’s or doctoral level degree related to conservation. Every year WWF helps conservationists who are committed to their work from countries of interest to receive financial aid for their studies and field research. The applicants can apply to any of the universities worldwide and are required to return to their country of origin to engage in conservation work for a minimum of two years following completion of their education. To strengthen capacities throughout all three oceans, the Pacific, Atlantic, and the Indian Ocean, EFN invites applicants from both aspiring and current conservation leaders, enabling them to pursue higher-level studies (masters and doctoral dissertations) designed to bridge the gap in the capacities of nations to achieve the objectives for Blue Economy development.
The purpose of this fellowship is to assist individuals in the development of evidence-based, innovative, and inter-disciplinary research that examines gender equity’s role in creating long-term sustainable Blue Economy outcomes, with an emphasis on small-scale fishing and tropical ecosystems.
The 2020 Train Fellowship Competitions are 2: Train Fellowship Competitions eligible for the Russell E. Train Fellowships for 2020:
1.) Building capacity in the Galapagos To build capacities locally in the Galapagos, EFN, in partnership with Celebrity Cruises, offers grants to female conservationists to help them pursue graduate-level research (Masters and Ph.D.) to improve the conservation of marine species throughout the Galapagos Islands.
2.) Current & Aspiring University Faculty for Conservation These fellowships are intended for current and aspiring university faculty affiliated to or employed by African, Asian, and Latin American universities to earn master’s degrees related to conservation areas. When a doctoral degree is completed, the recipient must further develop or create a graduate-level conservation program at a school in their country of residence.
Eligible countries: Belize, Ecuador, Fiji, Gabon, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Kenya, Madagascar, Mozambique, Namibia, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Solomon Islands, Suriname, and Vietnam
Current & Aspiring University Faculty for ConservationEFN is offering fellowships to help students and faculty members associated with or employed by African, Asian, and Latin American universities earn Doctoral degree programs in conservation-related areas. When completing their degree, the person will need to enhance, develop or start a graduate-level conservation program at the University of the country they reside in.

Eligibility Criteria To Apply For Russell E Train Fellowships for Faculty for Conservation 2022

To be qualified to receive eligible for a Train Fellowship, you must satisfy the following requirements. Be aware that the eligibility requirements may differ by competition. Therefore, you should also consult specific guidelines for competitions to make sure you’re qualified.

  • The applicant must also be a national or legal resident of an eligible country.
  • At the very least, two years of conservation-related research or work prior experience.
  • You must demonstrate a commitment to conservation in a qualifying country.
  • Your academic research or program should address one of the subject areas that are listed by the rules.
  • The student must have been enrolled, accepted to, or applied to a master’s or Ph.D. program in any country in the world.
  • It is essential to plan to start your studies by January 2023.
  • You must agree to work for 2 years at a minimum in your country of residence following the conclusion of the degree.
  • You cannot have been awarded a Train Fellowship or Scholarship in the past. Professional Development Grant recipients are eligible to apply.
  • It would be best to inform EFN that you are an employee, consultant, WWF consultant employee, or a previous EFN grantee.
  • All required documents before the deadline for application (March 1st, 2022).

PROCESS OF SELECTION

Train Fellows are selected via an open, merit-based selection process. A multidisciplinary, independent panel of experts are assembled in each country to evaluate applications and select the most qualified candidates on the following guidelines:

  • Professional credentials as proven by past and current conservation-related posts or references from colleagues working in conservation published works and various other sources.
  • Showed leadership through involvement in volunteer and community events, at work and in the local and national government, and other areas.
  • Prior academic achievements as indicated by academic awards, grades, and academic references from professors
  • Motivation and determination to make a difference in conservation efforts in the country of participation and to share the knowledge gained with other people within their field and communities.
  • The potential impact of the proposed study or research on conservation efforts within the country of origin or in the region
  • Relevance of the proposition concerning the topic
  • The evidence of enrollment or continuous enrollment in an institution of higher education
